iwantgreatcare.org – the worst site on the web?
July 23, 2008
Dr Bacon, iwantgreatcare’s founder, doesn’t have a great track record for websites: he founded doctors.net which despite having virtually no competitors as a doctors’ networking site, still struggles to succeed. He seems to have gone one better now though with a site that, to me, is one of the worst I’ve seen.
The concept is flawed (at best), the legal basis for the site is shaky, but surely the site’s appearance and usability are its greatest flaw. Take a look:
The site’s appearance and banner are awful – i could do better in ten minutes.
All the site allows users to do is ’search for great care’ or ‘read reviews of a doctor’. These search boxes are clumsy and limited. The list of top rating doctors beneath is pointless – not useful for concerned patients or even more concerned doctors. That’s pretty much all the site does! No more links, no more features. There isn’t even a link to take users straight to a ‘i want to rate my doctor’ page – the whole purpose of the site!
Finally, rating doctors with three criteria: trust, listening and recomendation is bizare. Giving raters one hundred marks (%) to hand out for each of these is just ridiculous.
In the bottom right of the page i have shown above is a review of Dr Rakicka:
| Trust | 10% | Added by: Carer/Relative | 2008-07-23 |
| Listening | 0% | In our experience… Dr Rakicka provides very little information to relatives, and fails to understand that relatives that care for elderly patients need a high level of information and involvement in diagnosis and treatment, to engender a trust between patient \ family and her. Dr Rakicka fails to communicate effectively – there are inconsistencies and errors. Dr Rakicka expects all communication to happen face-to-face and fails to provide any flexibility in this aproach, even when family members find it difficult to attend hospital during office hours. | |

Not only is the site badly put together, it also tries to destroy reputations. Surely it must be a practical joke?
